When taking a natural, quality multivitamin there aren’t any side effects to worry about. No multivitamins are expected to give any serious problems, especially when taken as directed. Any minor side effects can happen in rare cases and include:
- bad taste in the mouth
- upset stomach
If you stick with one good multivitamin you’ll have no problems with side effects. Some people may take a megadose of a particular vitamin or mineral, in which case there can be problems. For example, some may overdose on vitamin C because of a cold and too much of it could lead to stomach cramps, nausea, and diarrhea.
An extreme overdose of vitamin A can also cause nausea, dizziness and blurred vision, but one would need to take a lot more than any vitamin or multivitamin pill contains.
For most of us, we aren’t taking any dangerous amounts, even when doing occasional overdoses for a specific reason, which is not necessary because taking way more than the recommended dose is not really doing us any more good than sticking to the manufacturer’s recommended dosage.
What we should be doing is getting the best quality of vitamins and minerals as there are far too many inferior products on drugstore shelves. It’s a large and competitive market and buying the cheapest drugstore brand is not the smartest option where vitamins are concerned.
The Most Popular Supplement
Do you know what the most widely used supplement in the world is? Vitamin C, which is ascorbic acid. Unfortunately too many companies produce ascorbic acid synthetically from glucose and this is often derived from corn syrup, the worst and cheapest source available. This is the same ascorbic acid that food companies use to preserve food as flavour stabilizers, inhibitors, and modifiers.
What to Look For in a High Quality Multivitamin Supplement
Avoid supplements containing the following which do more harm than good:
- artificial flavors
Choose an All-Natural Brand
In the world of supplement manufacturers there are those that use mass produced, generic ingredients (this is most of them) those that boast about making natural vitamins and add artificial colors and flavors, and those that use 100% natural ingredients (these are few).
One manufacturer from New Zealand is such a company that does use all-natural ingredients in all their supplements, which range from omega 3 fish oils, natural skincare products ,and vitamins.
